The Felids

This is a family of carnivorous mammals, distributed throughout the world, with the exception of Oceania and Antarctica. They are characterized by their short snout and retractable claws. In Argentina there are 11 species, whose sizes vary between 61 cm in Oncifelis guigna to 2.5 m in the Jaguar (Panthera onca). Most species feed on rodents and birds, but larger species such as Jaguar and Cougar (Puma concolor) can hunt larger prey, including calves, foals and other domestic animals, which has raised a permanent conflict with humans.
